Mug Press Review

Hi friends today I am sharing with you my Mug Press from Cricut and why I choose the Cricut Mug Press.

I am just going to start this review with the fact that I LOVE my Cricut Mug Press.

I have been wanting to make mugs that designs would infused in to the mug and you can use in the dishwasher and the colours would last for the life of the mug. I have been looking for a mug press for a while but didn’t know which one to choose. Then Cricut bought out the Cricut mug press and I looked at all the reviews and they were all so positive.

The Cricut Mug Press is a highly specialized heat press for customizing mugs. It’s incredibly easy to use. It works so well with my Cricut Explore Air 2 you load the design in Cricut’s Design Space, cuts it on your Cricut machine, and bakes it onto your mug.

Why do I like it:-

  • It’s small, sleek, and lightweight. I have been wanting a mug press, but others are big, bulky, and heavy. I didn’t have space for one in my office, but with the Cricut Mug Press, it fits perfectly on a shelf, my desk, or my Cricut rolling cart. And the design, it’s so cute!
  • Very Easy to use – There’s just one button on the Cricut Mug Press. Once you press it and the machine is warmed up and ready to go, you’ll hear a beep. Lift the lever, place your mug with the design sheet attached inside, and close the lever. Another beep tells you the mug is done. Take it out and place it on a heat-resistant surface and let it cool completely. Then you can remove the sheet and your design is permanently infused into the mug. The colors are vivid and will not ever peel, crack, or fade. You can go ahead and wash your mug in the dishwasher too.
  • Yields excellent, vividly colourful results
  • Design will not fade, crack, or peel
  • Resulting mugs are dishwasher-safe
  • Auto-off for safety

The negatives with this machine is:-

  • Can only be used with Cricut machines and Cricut design space
  • It is expensive and there are a lot of cheaper alternatives
  • You’ll also need to purchase Cricut’s Infusible Ink Transfer Sheets (from £7 for two sheets) or Infusible Ink Pens/Markers (from £7 for three), plus Cricut’s 12-ounce or 15-ounce mugs (from £6). You can try using third-party sublimation blanks, but they will need to be about the same size and shape as Cricut’s mugs
  • I’d love to be able to transfer photos onto a mug, but unfortunately, the Cricut Mug Press does not have an easy way to do that. Technically, you can do it if you print your photos with sublimation ink, but Cricut can only assure excellent results if you’re using Cricut’s line of Infusible Ink materials.

Is the Cricut Mug Press Worth it?

So, the real question then, is: is the Cricut Mug Press worth it?

I’d argue, yes — in some circumstances:

  • You’re looking for a mug press
  • You already spend time making mugs and want to make them better
  • You’re selling (or intending to sell) mugs and want the best quality for your customers

It ticks the three major boxes of professional results, ease of use, and safety features.

Add on to that the fact it looks good and fits in seamlessly to the rest of the Cricut products, and you’ve got a real winner.

Let’s be clear though that the Cricut Mug Press is just an add-on, and will be a wish-list product for many rather than an essential. It is expensive compared to much of the rest of the market and does require you to buy into other Cricut products rather than being a true stand-alone.

Where to Buy the Cricut Mug Press

The Mug Press can be bought direct from Cricut. (US)
